Today in class we first looked over the HW question S1P2Q4. We then started into Statistics Part 2 - PDF and ppsx versions linked below right. This included reference to correlation value r which you must be able to calculate with your calculator -please practice this (instructions linked here). We also revised scatter graphs, best fit, causality, z-values, empirical rule. HW is to read through the rest of the Statistics Part 2 presentation and be able to how to find confidence intervals and perform a hypothesis test on given data.. as in Example questions. |

A student enquired "Hi Sir, I was just wondering do we have to be able to know how to prove the 'factor theorem' or do we just have to be able to apply it in algebra?"
The Factor Theorem proof was a standard question on the old course. I have carefully read through the new syllabus and cannot see that this proof is required. I have attached a picture of the Syllabus' reference to the Factor Theorem. The proof involves long division and it is expected that a long division of this nature would be doable by HL students - as we met last week in the complex number question S1P1Q1 (Solution linked here).
