Re HW S3P1Q4c the use of de Moivre's theorem to find roots needs further explanation in class - the second answer is generated by adding 1 revolution (n=1) ie. 2pi to the original angle, the third answer is generated by adding 2 revolutions (n=2) ie 4pi to the original angle etc..
At the start of class we corrected the HW questions using deMoivre's Theorem. Class notes are uploaded (click here).
Today in class we corrected the sample paper question on the circle S.3 Q.1 P.2 (solution here).
The Polar Form of a Complex Number was introduced. HW is to convert 5 Cartesian Form Complex numbers into their Polar Form. Class notes and HW questions and solutions are uploaded (click here for class notes & corrected solutions) Apologies for delay at start of revision class on the circle this morning - it was encouraging to see such a full attendance. The notes are linked in Saturday's blog and in the "Line & Circle" page of the website.
Today we also started using the Project Maths Exam Papers. HW is to look over these and also to try complete the circle question started in class from Sample Paper 2. Thank you for the following query "Hi Sir, I was looking over differentiation from first principles and on your page you had: Differentiate 2x to the power of 2 + 3x from first priciple I've two questions: Q1 Is this one we must know? Q2. Shouldn't the answer be 4x + 3 and not 4x( to the power of two) + 3?"
I can't find where this question is on the website? But in answer to your 2 questions. 1. Oddly enough at Ordinary Level this would be a standard First Principles question (click here for samples) but at Higher Level it has never been asked. Although it is possible but unlikely since the Higher Level course assumes knowledge of the Ordinary Level course. There are 6 required First Principle derivations on our course (click here) these should be known. 2. if f(x) = 2x^2 +3x then f'(x) = 4x + 3. You are correct. In preparation for Monday mornings revision class on the circle I have uploaded summary Coordinate Geometry Revision Notes.
I have also uploaded some of last years notes and a revision PowerPoint in "Strand 2 - The Line & Circle" on this site. Today we revised Complex Numbers. The class notes and revision questions for HW are uploaded (Click here).
The exam papers arrived today also so if you could bring in €5 tomorrow. If you haven't yet brought in a USB flash drive to get the construction videos please do so tomorrow also. |
